CLARKDALE CHEERLEADER, JORDIN JOHNSON,
CHOSEN AS FINALIST FOR NATIONAL CHEERLEADER
OF THE YEAR SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

(Fayetteville, NC) - The top 20 high school junior and senior cheerleaders were named as finalists for the 2009 National Cheerleader of the Year in March, and Jordin Johnson, an 11th grader at Clarkdale High School, is one of them.

Jordin, who is the cheer and dance captain at CHS, and a member of the four-time MHSAA State Champion cheer squad, has made it through two rounds of competition already. She, along with her coach, DeShannon Davis, and four teammates, will travel to Fayetteville, NC, May 14-17, 2009, where she will compete for $4,500.00 of scholarship monies in the final round of competition. This competition is sponsored by Cheer Ltd., and held during the 2009 National Cheer Conference (CheerCon). If chosen National Cheerleader of the Year, Jordin will be awarded scholarship money, be given numerous opportunities to travel throughout the United States promoting the spirit industry, model for top cheerleading uniform companies, be featured in the American Cheerleader magazine, and attend Cheer Ltd.'s National Competition in Myrtle Beach, SC, in March of 2010.

The National Selection Committee, a group of spirit industry coaches, state association leaders and cheerleading experts, made the announcement of finalist March 31, 2009. Preliminary scores were derived from an application process, which included a resume, letters of endorsement, official transcript of grades, a talent video of cheerleading and gymnastics skills, and an interview. Nominations for this prestigious award were solicited from athletic directors, principals and cheerleading coaches; with the final selection being determined by the Cheer Ltd. Advisory Board and the National Selection Committee. Nominees for this award must be current juniors or seniors in high school with accumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
